How Tomax Solutions Uses UK and Irish Lifting Inspection Software

After launching a new service inspecting lifting equipment, Adrian McCann of Tomax Solutions spent his days on the road on site visits and his evenings writing reports.

As demand for the service grew, so did the paperwork and it was clear that he needed to find a solution. Adrian was aware that software could save time by automating reports and certification. However as his business is based in Northern Ireland and serves customers on both sides of the border, any system needed to be able to manage both UK and Irish standards.

CheckedOK – which is a market leader in both Ireland and the UK – fitted the bill perfectly. he system complies with both LOLER and the Irish equivalent GA1, as well as PSSR inspection software requirements for pressure systems, PUWER and PPE. Tomax was one of the first companies to use the SaaS (Software as a Service) version of CheckedOK, which aims to bring the benefits of the system to a wider audience through an affordable monthly payment.

Adrian, whose business had originally focused on sales of lifting equipment to the agriculture and construction sectors, launched the inspection service in 2022 and adopted CheckedOK a year later. He now provides inspections for a wide range of clients including quarries and engineering plants.

Using CheckedOK, he simply inputs inspection data on site using a mobile device, and reports and certificates are produced automatically. He says the new system has freed up his evenings and is also a real selling point with clients too, as they can access the results online immediately and check the status of assets at any time.

Adrian explains: “I had been searching for the right system before I came across CheckedOK. It has saved me so much time! Had I continued with the paperwork, I would have had to employ an extra member of staff. It’s also far easier for clients as they can check any item just by tapping in the serial number. It will then tell them what it is and how much time is left before it needs another inspection.
