From offshore platforms to electricity networks. Supporting compliance and asset visibility across some of the most demanding environments in the world.
Energy operations all share a common challenge. Assets are often remote, hazardous or distributed across large geographical areas, and the consequences of a missed inspection or lost record go beyond administration. CoreRFID has been working in this sector for nearly two decades. Our RFID for energy solutions track assets in some of the harshest industrial environments on the planet. Our inspection software keeps compliance records accurate and audit-ready, wherever engineers are working.
ESB Networks supplies power to over two million customers. Its engineers operate from 2,500 vehicles, each carrying between 100 and 120 assets. Climbing harnesses, lifting gear, ladders and more – all requiring regular inspection and certification under Irish and European safety regulations.
CoreRFID tagged over 140,000 assets across the fleet and implemented CheckedOK to manage the full inspection lifecycle. Engineers use handheld RFID readers to identify assets instantly, complete guided inspection checklists and generate certificates automatically. Every asset’s history is stored centrally, accessible to ESB staff and auditors at any time.
RFID tags attached to individual components give engineers instant identification and a direct link to each asset’s history, without manual record-keeping on site. Combined with inspection software, the entire reporting process – from scan to certificate – is automated.
Before CheckedOK, ITS Plant Tech waited for engineers to physically return from remote windfarm sites before inspection reports could be processed. It created bottlenecks, put strain on office staff and delayed certificates reaching clients. Now engineers submit findings before they’ve left the site.

Offshore operations work to some of the most stringent regulatory frameworks in any industry. Whether it’s LOLER, SOLAS, NORSOK or all three simultaneously, when a class surveyor arrives, inspection records can be produced instantly. One platform manages compliance of lifting gear, safety equipment, pressure systems and tools, across multiple vessels or installations.
For asset identification in hazardous offshore environments, we supply encapsulated RFID tags rated to IP68 and ATEX-certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Tags survive salt spray, temperature extremes and the physical demands of offshore operations.

Inspection compliance is one application of RFID in the energy sector. Asset control is another.
GE Power ships specialist tools in containers to sites worldwide. With tools regularly going missing or unaccounted for, and containers requiring permanent staffing, the manual process was costly. CoreRFID supplied tags for authorised personnel, with an access panel, ensuring only the right people could enter and every movement is logged automatically. Labour costs were reduced. Accountability was improved.

‘Clients can access reports and certification within hours rather than weeks. And we’ve been able to tailor the service to every client’s requirements.’
‘RFID is making an important contribution to error reduction and increased efficiency, CoreRFID has been instrumental in helping us select the right technology.’
‘CoreRFID made this project very easy to work on, by creating an open and honest 3-way relationship . . . This has enabled us to exceed both cost and delivery targets.’
‘Everything we wanted CoreRFID to do for us it delivered. It is not only the technical solution which has been brilliant; it is the team. The solutions have saved us endless time.’
